STOTT PILATES

Christine graduated from the highly acclaimed STOTT PILATES Certification Program in 2003 and continues to teach using the STOTT PILATES method.

STOTT PILATES ® is a contemporary approach to the exercise method pioneered by the late Joseph Pilates. Co-founders Moira and Lindsay Merrithew, along with a team of physical therapists, sports medicine and fitness professionals have spent more than two decades refining the STOTT PILATES method of exercise and equipment. This resulted in the inclusion of modern principles of exercise science and spinal rehabilitation, making it one of the safest and most effective available. This clear and detailed approach forms the basis for STOTT PILATES training and certification programmes. It is used by rehab and pre-natal clients, athletes, celebrities and everyone in between.

STOTT PILATES is recognised as an industry leader and their instructors are, not surprisingly, highly regarded and very much in demand. So, make sure to book early.

What people are saying about Pilates on Tay:

"Having suffered from lower back and sciatic pain for ten months after the birth of my second child it was very important to me to build strength and fitness as soon as I was able.

I had attended one of Christine's mat classes for over a year before my pregnancy and had been very impressed by Christine's professionalism - she's a great ambassador for Stott Pilates.

I was hoping that I'd be able to do a few one on one sessions with Christine to get back in shape thinking that she'd be able to suggest a few exercises and take me through them. What I didn't realise was that I was getting a real personal trainer with a wonderfully equipped studio!

Christine took a holistic approach to my training and gave great advice on diet as well as devising an exercise programme that was perfect for me. As a result I've achieved so much more than I set out to do - rather than just "getting back in shape" I've got a new shape!

I'm in better condition now than I have been for twenty years and am enjoying every moment of my new found fitness. I really believe that I was able to achieve so much in a relatively short space of time because of Christine's genuine commitment to me as her student. She is supportive, very knowledgeable and understanding and was (and is) there for me every step of the way."

"Having had the misfortune of a bad mammogram result, I was eventually faced last August with a single mastectomy. After lakes of tears and much agonising, I also decided to have a reconstruction operation at the same time. On my plastic surgeon’s advice, this entailed using tissue from my stomach and I’m in absolutely no doubt that my years of regular Pilates classes before then helped me cope with the surgery far better than I otherwise might. It also helped give me the muscular strength to get back moving again as quickly as possible.

I was able to tell my physiotherapist that I was used to Pilates, which let her tailor my exercises in hospital to include simple and familiar stretches that helped ease my post-op muscle tensions. Pilates also helped me to get full movement back in my shoulder and arm very quickly, which in turn let me avoid some of the potential long-term complications that can arise.

Once back home, Christine kindly lent me a specialised breast cancer recovery Pilates DVD, which worked with to build myself back up very gradually and, by December, I was back in my regular class, although I was taking it rather more easily than before !

Since then, as well as continuing in class, I’ve continued to build my strength through one-to-one sessions with Christine, working on her ‘Reformer’ machine. While it looks a bit scary, it is undoubtedly helping me to get full movement back, plus it’s letting me feel physically far stronger and, as a result, much more like my old emotional self again. My stomach is still weak, but it’s improving all the time with Christine’s skill and careful encouragement. She’s giving me the confidence to do all the right things at the right time, but at the same time, she’s stopping me from doing too much too soon, or from making mistakes with the exercises, which could so easily hurt and set my recovery back.

Quite simply, I owe Christine and Pilates a huge thanks !"

"I have attended Christine's Pilates classes for over 4 years and can strongly recommend her classes, which are delivered with a professional, friendly and encouraging approach. I started Pilates on the advice of my Osteopath to address a persistent lower back problem. Christine's classes have significantly helped my back and also my general suppleness. Her enthusiasm, excellent teaching skills and enthusiasm for Pilates, provide me with an evening I look forward to each week."

Brigid Duthie, Perthshire

"After Attending Christine's classes for a considerable time I am able to give a male point of view about Pilates. Pilates is wrongly regarded as being mainly for women and that the exercises have been toned down accordingly. This is a false assumption and Christine can fine-tune every Pilates exercise for anyone, whether male or female. The attention to detail in the class and the emphasis on slow small movements to achieve maximum results is the mainstay of Christine's approach. The Stott Pilates training system is based on sound principles and is not a passing 'flavor of the month'. This is Pilates for everyone and is both relaxation and exercise of the highest quality. I have no reservations in recommending these classes because exercise has always been important to me and Pilates can both prevent injury and help to alleviate injuries once they occur. This has been very much a case of 'If only I had known then what I know now!' "

Michael Davidson, Perth

"STOTT PILATES - Christine Lamb. I was referred to Pilates over 2 ½ years ago by a Physiotherapist. I had suffered from constant back pain for 5 years and nothing I did seemed to help. But within 3 months of starting Pilates I noticed a significant reduction in my back pain and certainly after 6 months I have no pain at all. Not only is it good for back pain but it's great for your figure! I have become so enthused by Pilates that I intend to train and teach myself."

Louise Wight, Perth

"I have suffered from osteoarthritis of my lumbar and cervical spine for many years and have been attending Christine's classes for about three years,I feel if it were not for Pilates I would be much less mobile than I currently am and my back pain would be significantly worse than it is.Attending Christine's class is one time in the week when even if I am feeling down and sore before going I always come away afterwards with a good feeling and renewed energy.Christine knows everyone who attends her classes personally and ensures that while we are taking care of any sore or injured areas we are encouraged to achieve the best we can on the night."

Ruby Keay, Perth

"Although I have weight-lifted for a few years and have run a couple of half-marathons I thought the Reformer workout for men would be easy compared with my tough gym workouts. How wrong I was. I now realise that weightlifting builds the big muscles e.g. pecs, lats etc. but does nothing for the vital deep stabilizing muscles, so important for spinal support. I also realise where I’ve been going wrong with my gym workouts in that although my arms and legs are strong my core stability was found to be virtually non-existent. I am now working on building my core muscles, which are essential to support the rest of my body. I am now less likely to sustain an injury and am convinced that the Pilates Reformer workout for men is a much more complete form of exercise than I can get in the gym."

Pilates for Men

If you think Pilates is just for women, think again. After all it was created by a man, Joseph Pilates. Pilates is becoming very popular among professional sportsmen. As men tend to be less supple than women Pilates is particularly suitable for men wishing to improve flexibility. The STOTT Reformer workout for men is a unique series of exercises, designed to get all your muscles working to an extent not achieved in a routine gym workout. Expect to work hard and see significant results fast. This workout is only available as a studio one-to-one session.

Classes For Men

While you are more than welcome to join any of our regular classes we also run men only studio mat classes. These classes run when we have three or more male clients expressing an interest.
